Biosafety Officer, Tufts University

The Biosafety Officer will report to the Director of Laboratory Safety within the OVPR. The Biosafety Officer will provide technical and regulatory expertise to the academic and clinical biosafety programs at Tufts University (Tufts) and Tufts Medical Center (Tufts MC). The core functions of this position will be to perform risk assessment and regulatory assessment of all research, teaching and training activities involving biohazardous materials registered with the Institutional Biosafety Committee and to assist the scientific community at Tufts University and Tufts Medical Center in properly registering the work with the IBC. Other duties will include partnering with the other regulatory and support offices at Tufts University for oversight of biohazardous materials, as well as interacting with the scientific community at Tufts and Tuft MC in a support capacity.

Cambridge City Manager Louis A. DePasquale is seeking Cambridge residents to fill two vacancies on the Cambridge  Biosafety Committee (CBC).

Biosafety Committee members are volunteers appointed by the City Manager for a 5-year term to work with the Cambridge

Public Health Department staff as designated by the Cambridge Public Health Commissioner in oversight, enforcement

and permit issuance under the Recombinant DNA Technology Ordinance (Chapter 8.20, 1981, 1993) and the Cambridge

Laboratory Biosafety Regulation (2009).

Under the direction of the Principal Biological Safety Special, the Senior Biological Safety Specialist is responsible for planning and executing projects and programs designed to ensure the achievement of the company’s goals relative to Environmental Health and Safety outcomes. This role will support new and exciting pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D. They will be involved with developing, implementing, and maintaining all components of the program necessary to remain in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS&S regulations, as well as Johnson & Johnson EHS Standards.
